‘Never eat prunes when ye’r hungry.’

‘Pick that up afore auld nick gie’s it a lick.’

Pick up that food you have just dropped on the floor.

‘Ah’m spittin’ feathers.’

I’m very thirsty.

‘That’ll dae ye till ye get somethin’ tae eat.’

That was a huge meal you just ate.

‘Dae ye fancy a pokey hat?’

Would you like an ice-cream cone.

‘Huv a jeely piece an’ be done.’

After you have that sandwich you are getting’ no more.

‘Ah’ll mak a clootie dumplin’ fur yer birthday.’

I will make you a boiled dumpling in a cloth.
